MP3 CD Player Review - iRiver SlimX iMP-350 CD/MP3 Player with Ultraslim Design iRiver SlimX iMP-350 CD/MP3 Player with Ultraslim Design - Expensive? Kind of. Worth it? Definitely - I bought this CD player a year ago when my old Sony started randomly shutting down and skipping at every tiny scratch. At the time, the only thing that really drew me to this player was the thin size. A year later, I can tell you that this is a high-quality player that deserves consideration. As I'm sure you've read in other reviews, it has wonderful sound, the remote is very handy, you should use headphones and a case other than what comes with it, and of course, it's a lot skinnier than most CD players. Here's some stuff you might not know. The quality from player to player seems to be slightly inconsistant. I absolutely loved mine. It played even my CD that was so scratched up you could hardly have damaged it worse if you'd had at it with a paperclip or something. I never had any problems with it whatsoever. It even survived numerous falls without missing a beat, no pun intended. However, my friend bought the same player a few months after I did. His had a faulty lid and had to be sent back under warrantee, no biggie. But when I finally did my player in (tragic story really) and he lent me his, I was quite surprised at the difference. His occasionally would randomly in the middle of a song skip to the next one. It couldn't play the scratched CD that mine had had no trouble with. And some CDs it had trouble reading, even a brand-new one with no blemishes of any kind. As far as I know, nothing had ever happened to his player to make it do this and he claims it had always been like that. I don't know which caliber of performance is more typical of this player, but if you have faith that you'll get one like mine was, go for it, you won't be disappointed in any capacity. As you may have read, iRiver's customer support is terrible. I emailed them after mine broke to ask them if they do repairs not covered by warrantee. After 2 weeks, I got no response. The only way to get a response is either to call (I've not read anything good about that either) or to register your product online and use the account you create to send them a question. On top of the difficulty of contact, it turns out that iRiver doees not do repairs and does not keep spare parts, so I'm not sure it's possible at all to get anything not under warrantee fixed. It would be fair to put this as a disclaimer on their products. I'm sure it would just do wonders for sales. Anyway, if you are looking for a player that is sleek, puts out great sound, and will make a good many people jealous, this is a good choice. Just be wary of potential quality lapses and below-mediocre support from the company. - GO NOW!!!
MP3 CD Player Review - iRiver SlimX iMP-400 CD/MP3 Player (Silver) iRiver SlimX iMP-400 CD/MP3 Player (Silver) - Product Description - The iMP-400's chrome-style design and incredible features redefine expectations for what's possible in a portable CD player. From its circuit design to its final manufacturing spec, iRiver has channeled all its efforts into delivering the best CD and MP3 sound quality. The player supports WMA and ASF formats as well as discs burned with Winamp playlists. Additional formats, such as AAC and MP3 Pro, will be supported in the future through simple firmware upgrades, by which iRiver can add and modify player features. - GO NOW!!!
MP3 CD Player Review - iRiver SlimX iMP-550 CD / MP3 Player with Ultraslim Design iRiver SlimX iMP-550 CD / MP3 Player with Ultraslim Design - Excellent Product ... BUT - The 550 is an excellent product, with one exception: It will NOT play protected WMA files: i.e., music downloaded from one of the popular services (Napster, BuyMusic, etc.). iRiver hasn't yet responded to my query about when they expect this support to be available (their flash memory products offer it). If you expect to rip hundreds of songs from your own CDs and play them on a single CD then this product's for you. If you expect to download hundreds of songs from a service to a single CD - get a flash memory device instead. Other than that, it does everything it claims it can do and does it very well. Quality and ease of use are very good. However, I do think the display is kinda small, particularly at 70 mph. - GO NOW!!!
NIKE
MP3 CD Player Review - Nike Sport ACT400 Audio MP3-CD Player PSA Nike Sport ACT400 Audio MP3-CD Player PSA - Great sounding Player - The sound was really nice, the volume was not so low. A little lower than my old [one] but I can handle this small difference and it had an equalizer for controlling treble and bass. ... This is really nice. I agree that the design and the battery life are not so well as [other ones]which have about 80 hours of battery life while this one has 24 hours without ESP. But I guess [other ones are]stealing from sound quality while boosting the battery life. I don't know but I definitely didn't like the sound of [some other]players. The remote and the magnets are really ingenious. Really easy to use. The device itself is really sound but also a little big. Anyway, it has advantages and disadvantages but the sound is the most important thing for me, and it has a great sound. I recommend this to everyone who listens to these things while walking, running etc. It doesn't skip and sounds great. - GO NOW!!!
PANASONIC
MP3 CD Player Review - Panasonic SL-CT710 Slim CD / MP3 Player Panasonic SL-CT710 Slim CD / MP3 Player - Great CD Player - I was extremely hesistant on purchasing this product at first, but now I've received this, I am glad I made this purchase. The CD player itself is really slick and light. The cover of the player also acts as a mirror. Pros: Player is very slim and light. Cover is reflective, acts like a mirror. Great battery life, and rechargable which saves a lot of money on disposable batteries. It charges while the batteries are in the player, so don't have to take them out. The little remote is very responsive and easy to use. Different EQ such as S-XBS, S-XBS+, Train, Live are great sound features. Players CD, MP3s very well, very minimal loading time for the MP3s. While playing, the button lights on the player will flash randomly, which looks cool. Was hoping to have some ligh flashing on the remote too, but no. Cons: The remote doesn't have a pause button. The wire of the remote is a bit thick. The earphone that comes with player is not great. I recommend the Sony fontopia EX71SL to go along witht this player, the bass will hit you so hard that it'll hurt. - GO NOW!!!
MP3 CD Player Review - Panasonic SL-SV570 Pers CD, 45 Second Panasonic SL-SV570 Pers CD, 45 Second - Good Value For A Portable MP3 CD Player - I'm a newbie at this MP3 thing, so the fact (apparently) that the SL-SV570 doesn't play WMA files means nothing to me, since all I wanted was an MP3 CD player. This is a basic player, though: it does not have a display that can show song, album, artist, etc. But I didn't want to spend $300 to $500 on an iPod or other MP3/harddrive contraption to do that. This is what you get: a solid CD player than can play audio CDs, including CD-RW disks, and CDs with MP3 files, also on CD-R or CD-RW disks. What I do is put 12 to 15 audio CDs on one CD-R or CD-RW disk and then create a label that shows the albums (Tracks 1-12, Thelonious Monk - Monk's Dream; Tracks 13-22, John Coltrane - Blue Train, etc.)--I use the Fellowes software and labels, which are the easiet and best to use. There isn't room on a label for the name of the tracks, of course. Then if you want to listen to the tracks sequentially, you can do that (there is a very valuable resume feature that starts up exactly where you shut the disk off previously), you can shuffle and listen to the tracks randomly, or you can use the Program feature and easily create up to a 20-track program. I use that to program a specific album to listen to. It works great, the sound quality is very good (Panasonic has a two-level XBS bass-boost feature which I almost never turn off), the volume is good, and the price is fair. You can buy CD-Rs for as low as five cents each if you look around (although 40 cents is more typical), and you can put 700 MB on on disk. Even at 40 cents per disk, you will spend less than $23 to get the capacity of a $500 iPod. If you want to create temporary disks, you can use CD-RWs for around $1.50 apiece. I have over 2,000 audio CDs and this is a great way for me to put 15 or so albums on a cheap CD-R, label it with the albums, and carry 15 hours of music around without worrying about losing the original audio CDs (many of which are out-of-print Jazz disks or otherwise really hard to find items), having to carry multiple disks around and load them with sweaty hands while working out, etc. The radio, though, is not too good, depending on your location; you can forget FM stereo unless you're standing next to the broadcast tower. BUT, the radio is good enough for AM ballgames when you're at the ballpark, FM stations in mono, in most places, and is great at the gym for the TVs that they put the sound through a low-band FM station so you can listen while you're working out. I gave the headphones to my daughter. They looked uncomfortable and anyway I only use earbuds, so I don't know about them. You will probably want to get a CD-jogger belt that will hold the player when you're walking around, running, exercising, etc. Panasonic sells one but there are others for around $20. You really want one so you don't drop the thing. It's plastic and hitting concrete will have the predictable effect. If you want to have a read-out and pick out specific songs, artists, etc., this is not the player for you. This is a basic model: it will play MP3 files loaded onto a CD-R or CD-RW, but it does have some good features: (i) good sound (bass and volume), (ii) excellent resume feature, and (iii) good program feature. If you need more than that, you will have to spend more money, probably. Panasonic sells basically the same model with a remote (which I wouldn't use) but without the radio for around the same price. I'm still using a cheap Panasonic (10-second skip protection only) that I bought five years ago and use every day, so Panasonic seems to hold up well. - GO NOW!!!
MP3 CD Player Review - Panasonic SL-SX330 Portable CD Player Panasonic SL-SX330 Portable CD Player - Product Description - The Panasonic SL-SX330 portable CD player was made for active use, incorporating Panasonic's D.sound technology with antiskip protection for high-quality, uninterrupted listening. D.sound comprises 4 key components: a digital amplifier (which helps reduce distortion and helps you to achieve crystal-clear sound--even at higher volume levels), S-XBS bass boost, and digital audio gain control help to improve bass response at higher volume levels. Since the SL-SX330 plays audio CD-R and CD-RW discs, you can enjoy listening to CDs you make at home in addition to commercial CDs. The CD player uses 2 AA batteries (not included), which last up to 50 hours. You can also power the unit with an optional 4.5V AC/DC adapter, which lets you plug your portable CD player into an outlet. - GO NOW!!!
MP3 CD Player Review - Panasonic SL-SX430 Portable CD/MP3 Player with D-Sound Panasonic SL-SX430 Portable CD/MP3 Player with D-Sound - Battery Life Will Blow You Away - I spent a while researching music devices from iPods to minidisc players, and ended up adding this mp3-CD player to my electronics collection. First, a few comments on some issues addressed by other reviews: - no, it doesn't play WMA's, but at least for me the package didn't say it would. Most of my collection is in MP3 anyway so I can deal with this functionality lack. - the device is plenty loud for me, and I think I have relatively worse hearing than most people I know judging by the volume I need to set for TV's. - lack of alphanumeric display was a consideration for me, since I already had a first-generation RioVolt that did have a display. But in the end that factor was outweighed in my mind. And not to be making lemonade out of lemons or anything, but it's somewhat fun to guess songs and reminiscent of old-school CD players (without the mp3's). Here's why I bought this player: - BATTERY LIFE. It's just utterly ridiculous at >50 hours on 2 AA's (average battery life of most others: 10 hours). Battery life is probably the most underrated feature I think. Gigs of storage is nice but if the player can barely last you through one whole day without charging, what's the point? I see some of the Sony players appear to have similar battery life these days but they seem more expensive and lack a... - WIRED REMOTE CONTROL. Put the actual device in your purse or backpack and it's as if you have a super-tiny mp3 player. The remote performs pretty much every function. Compared to my old RioVolt mp3 player, load time is faster, and the whole thing just seems more dependable and higher quality. Of course there are things such as FM radio and the aforementioned alphanumeric display that this player lacks. It also can't play packet-written CD's so you have to burn a whole CD if you want to change songs (interestingly, my RioVolt could do this, but it was sloow as heck). If it had these features (and maybe WMA), it would be the perfect mp3 cd player bar-none. Anyway, to complement this player, I also bought a sub-$100 tiny flash-based mp3 player with FM radio, voice recording, etc. (the TDK Mojo). I still feel this was a decent economical choice for me while maximizing music enjoyment. - GO NOW!!!
MP3 CD Player Review - Panasonic SL-SX431C Portable CD Player with Car Kit Panasonic SL-SX431C Portable CD Player with Car Kit - Excellent Hardware, Literature Could Use Some Work - I owned a Panasonic CD player for many years before it was stolen from my car. I was happy with its quality and went with the company again. Today I received the SL-SX431C, and so far I'm happy with it. I'm so happy I can store about ten CDs worth of music on one disc (since it can play MP3s of course). The features are pretty basic, but you can't beat the price for a reliable MP3 player like this. Not only does it have a car kit and decent earphones, my old AC adapter (which wasn't stolen) works with it (4.5V, 600 mA). My biggest complaint is that the instructions are practically nil. You have to just push a bunch of buttons to figure out how it works. Also, the 85 hour play time assumes very specific conditions, but I imagine it will still last quite long between battery changes. One great feature (esp when you have tons of music on a disc) is random play, repeat track, and repeat all. All things considered, I'm happy. - GO NOW!!!
MP3 CD Player Review - Panasonic SL-MP70 Portable CD/MP3 Player Panasonic SL-MP70 Portable CD/MP3 Player - It Was Good For The Price - well, i bought this cd awhile ago, and like with most electronic purchases, there are pros and cons. One thing i liked not about the machine, but about amazon, is that i ordered this with the free shipping option and got it in about 5 days, 4 days less than the minimum amount of days they said it would take to ship. For starters, this machine as with many other mp3 cd players dont order the tracks correctly. The way they were layed out on your computer for burning will not be the order they will be played on the cd. A pro about this machine is its battery life. 36/48 hrs. of battery life is kinda pushing it, but it does get very good battery life...however it sacrifices power to do so. as a mostly classical music listener, the music is a little softer than rock or rap, and therefore the machine would have to be turned up a couple of more knotches. However, this machine simply cannot provide that much volume. Even when i had the volume cranked all the way up in a quiet environmen (with out eq on, to save battery life), the softer parts were completely inaudible. and even with the bass boost eq level, there was basically no sound. Even worse, i use this machine on the train, so it does not give much sound over the tracks. now, u may ask, why did i give this machine a 4 if i dont like it that much? well, there are some other pros. It is not much wider or taller than a compact disk, and even though almost an inch in depth, it is still pretty compact, and very light. plus, it has a cool design. but i gave it the 4 over the 3 for me, not for you. ... And once again, consider that it gives little volume. - GO NOW!!!
MP3 CD Player Review - Panasonic SL-MP80 CD/MP3 Player Panasonic SL-MP80 CD/MP3 Player - Best One Around - The first one I bought I had to return because there was strange background noise (intermittently high pitch clicking) while playing back MP3. After awhile the player start skipping. (I know it claimed to be no-skip) So I thought it was my bad CD that I burned. But it was not. It skipped and click even with my regular music CD. So I returned and got my money back. The unit must have been damaged or something. After a week of no musics to listen to I did some more research on the web in hope of finding a good (better) CD/MP3 player to replace. But it seems like there's no better quality and value out there for the same price range. So I went back to the same store and give this player another chance. This time I was so impressed with the flawless performance. Battery life was long as they claimed. And I think it's longer than they said (nearly 60 hrs if you don't crank up the volume). Love the ID3 tag feature. Most of all, it's one of the rare CD players that is made in Japan. I own it for nearly 3 months now. I listen to it everynight about 1-2 hours a night. No problems what so ever. Highly recommend it. - GO NOW!!!
MP3 CD Player Review - Panasonic SL-SV550 CD/MP3 Player Panasonic SL-SV550 CD/MP3 Player - A Very Nice Product At A Bargain Price - I bought this CD/MP3 player recently. I'm very satisfied with all the functionalities it's equipped with. In addition to CD/MP3, it also has digital FM/AM. What a good deal for such a price! The sound quality is very good. So far I have no problem at all with this product. Some people complained about the LCD display that does not show MP3 title. However, you may arrange your hundreds of MP3 songs in different albums (or subdirectories) on a CD. Usually, it's enough to have about 10 albums on a~~ CD with 10~~14 MP3 songs inside each album. The album number is selectable using this player. Therefore, as long as you know your favorite album number. It's pretty easy to find the right songs you want on a MP3 CD. What amazed me most is the player's super efficient power system. With just two AA batteries, it seems that the player can run forever. Unbelievable! I strongly recommend this product. - GO NOW!!!
PHILIPS
MP3 CD Player Review - Philips EXP411 Pocket Expanium MP3-CD Player Philips EXP411 Pocket Expanium MP3-CD Player - Good Bang For Buck Factor - For me, it was either an MP3CD player, or a flash based system. Hard drive based systems are nice, but I cannot afford to lose or drop a $250+ unit. This is also a good unit to have if you want to get into a hard drive MP3 player ::eventually:: but want to wait for the technology to advance / prices to drop. I liked the idea of essentially having a "playlist" of songs on media that I can keep for a while and not have to erase and rewrite all the time. In the long run, managing a small collection of 8mm MP3CDs is less hassle than constantly reloading a flash based player and losing what was there before. Also, those 8mm CDs will play in 99% of computers and full size MP3CD players. The sound quality is very good. The unit has an electronic skip protection (ESP). However, I have found that even when I am riding my bike it is hard to make it skip. Leave ESP off and your battery will last about 1/3 longer. The only thing I wish this player did was display ID3 tags, but maybe I am asking for too much in a player this small. - GO NOW!!!
RCA
MP3 CD Player Review - RCA RP2485 Portable CD/MP3 Player with Car Kit (Red and Black) RCA RP2485 Portable CD/MP3 Player with Car Kit (Red and Black) - Comes With The Things People Want - Sure it doesn't have a lighted display, but it is a very BIG and easy to read LCD. It doesn't have 16 minute Steady Play to ensure 100% skip protection but so what. It comes with a car kit and Software CD, my Rio Volt SP150 didn't, and I payed $49.00 for it ($57 after S&H) I bet this RCA model probably has better volume than my SP150 as well. Betcha don't hafta crank it to 40 just to be able to hear your music, do ya? This thing plays WMA's and MP3's just like the SP150. Always look at your options before you buy, after buying my product from Amazon I looked on E-Bay and saw the same exact items as low as $15 if you use "Buy Now." - GO NOW!!!
RIOVOLT
MP3 CD Player Review - RioVolt SP65 Portable CD/MP3 Player - Anonymous - I don't know why anyone would complain about this product. I got it for $30 and it works great. It DOES NOT play WMA for those of you wondering, but I have a program that converts WMA to MP3, so that's no problem for me. It was a little confusing figuring out how to program the FM radio, but I figured it out myself in about 5 minutes. If you're really having trouble you can look online at www.sonicblue.com/support. It gives you all the help you'll need. I'm not sure of how the battery life is other than what the product claims, no problems there. I've already got it hooked up in my car too, and it works in there. The picture makes it appear as if there really are only a few buttons, but the large circle has play/pause/on, forward, back, stop/off buttons that are all multifuncional as well as a special button that enables different play modes as well as the radio. It's not very complicated. So far I love this thing. Get one if they're still only $30 - GO NOW!!!
SONY
MP3 CD Player Review - Sony D-NE300 ATRAC Walkman Portable CD Player (Blue) Sony D-NE300 ATRAC Walkman Portable CD Player (Blue) - Good, Not Great - 3 stars because first of all no bass boost button, even on the heavy sound equalizer it is not good bass. and sonicstage sucks. i get to the transfer window to transfer from my library to the blank CD-R, then sonicstage messes up. i put in a CD-R into my CD-RW drive and sonicstage does not detect it. the right window still says insert a CD. someone tell me what im doing wrong. someone said to only use a data only CD-R, like 700MB, NOT 700MB/80MIN - GO NOW!!!
MP3 CD Player Review - Sony D-NS707F S2 Sports ATRAC Walkman Portable CD Player with Digital Tuner (AM/FM/TV/Weather) Sony D-NS707F S2 Sports ATRAC Walkman Portable CD Player with Digital Tuner (AM/FM/TV/Weather) - Operates Faultlessly - This player takes CDs, including CD-Rs and CD-RWs with 20+ hours of mp3 on them, in stride. It plays them through, and does fast forward and rewind about as well as my solid-state mp3 player. Utilizing CD-RWs, I use this unit instead of a juke box. I still use my solid-state mp3 player only because it is more compact than this unit. As I prefer having TV audio available, no other player/receiver would have entirely satisfied me. The impressive technical accomplishment of this product will cause me to favor Sony products in future. The exterior design does leave things to be desired. The control buttons are cheesy and hard to operate. The display is too small. Instead of a carrying case or an anchor for a strap, there is a stupidly designed protruding flexible handle that makes the unit twice as bulky as it needs to be. - GO NOW!!!
MP3 CD Player Review - Sony D-CJ01 CD Walkman with MP3 Playback - Wonderful CD Player! - The remote is definetly worth buying if you buy this player. The player has great sound and I lov the mp3 playback. I can fit 14 CD's onto 1! Its like having a virtual CD changer! It is really easy to use and the remote makes it even easier! It is very inexpensive and much better quality than the RIO version. It never skips. Infact, the CD completly stops when it is done reading. It stores it in its memory. The ID3 taging is great. It displays all of the CD information. I love the displays. It can be a little pricy but if money is not an option definetly get the C-DJ01 with the RM-MC11ELs remote control. If you do not want the remote, you do not need it, but it controls every single feature on the CD player so you do not have to take it out of your pocket when yuo want to change tracks. It is "nifty" as one of my friends said. I would definetly recommend it and it is worth all the money. I'd rate it 11 out of 10. - GO NOW!!!
